Essential Job Functions:

Be Visible and Engaging: As Transit Associates, you will be visible at stations in order to increase hospitality and safety for all riders, particularly at entrances and exits, for optimal rider enjoyment. With a friendly greeting as a constant, you will actively step forward to assist those in need of guidance, whether it's navigating the MBTA system or providing directions and fare guidance. Assisting with safety for individuals with disabilities, such as deploying bridge plates, will also be part of your caring and customer-focused role.

Take Ownership: Transit Associates will most often be the only MBTA representative in their assigned stations and fully responsible for station operations throughout their shift. From a uniformed presence by ensuring safety to enhancing the commuting experience, we are the driving force behind a smooth journey for all.

Activity Reporting: Transit Associates receive a station iPad, which is their hub for all activities. From reporting maintenance issues to tidying up any big items of trash or litter to identifying and addressing unusual behaviors, everything flows through this device. In emergencies, they follow protocols as first-line responders, alerting transit police when needed a crucial role in maintaining safety and order for everyone.

Job Description


Uncommon Middle School Science teachers work in grade-level teams to prepare all students with the tools and knowledge to critically engage in the field of science. At the heart of all Science courses is a love for the subject and inquiry-based learning, including a robust focus on student discourse and the science practices. Science teachers employ a variety of instructional strategies to develop a passion for scientific questioning and analysis in their students. Our teachers strive for subject mastery and have a keen sense of the socio-emotional changes middle schoolers experience. At the conclusion of eighth grade, students are prepared for the academic autonomy and college preparatory focus of our high schools.

Responsibilities

1. Instruction

  • You'll teach an interdisciplinary, NGSS-aligned curriculum that includes analysis of key areas including but not limited to: Climate and Earths systems, the cosmos, matter and energy transformations, electricity and magnetism, and molecular and ecological systems.
  • You'll develop students practices of questioning, modeling, constructing explanations, data analysis, argumentation, and planning and conducting interactive labs.
  • You'll use your love of science to foster confidence and meaningful engagement with the subject for students.
  • You'll cultivate an awareness of the interconnected nature of fields of science (e.g., ecosystems, climate change, and lunar phases) and our local and global community.

The Center for Families is a city-wide family support program serving families with children from prenatal to eight years. The Center provides parenting workshops, support groups, playgroups, home visits, information and referral services, community building events, parent-child activities, one-on-one supports, and as well as concrete support in times of need. ABOUT THE ROLE

Family Support Outreach Workers work with Center for Families staff to develop and implement parent/child playgroup programming. Playgroups meet in approved locations (inside and outside locations) that may or may not be set up as classrooms. Playgroups include a variety of developmentally appropriate activities for different age young children and help parents and caregivers learn about how to effectively support children's growth and learning. Part time staff work with full time staff to prepare for parent education programming, support programming and community events in order to connect with families. Family Support Outreach Workers also work to outreach to and engage with families and connect them to programming and resources in the community. Part-time Family Support Outreach Workers report to a designated full-time staff member.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Full participation in the Department of Human Service Programs' mission to eliminate racism within our department.
  • Outreach to all Cambridge families with young children with a specific focus on those that are harder to reach.
  • Facilitating weekly playgroups (gross motor, sensory, literacy, art, and music activities; circle time, and snack) for parents/caregivers with children 15 months-4 years old.
